I just wanted everyone to know this website has received a big responce from numerous disgruntled Chrysler owners. I would like to give everyone a quick update. 4 months ago I bought a Acura RSX. THe car is fantastic. So far it runs smooth and has a great warranty in case there are problems. As far as my old Sebring here is a funny story. The day before I traded it in the car was having problems starting smoothly. I just prayed it would make it to the dealership to trade it in. I was up front with the Dealer North Hampton Acura and Jim Ahearn the salesman. I was treated very well! I would highly recommend buying a car there. As for my Sebring unfortunatly a couple of months after I traded it in the car would not start and has had numerous problems. Sorry to leave North Hampton with a dud. The moral of the story is if you want a car that works and service you can trust do not buy a Chrysler. I did settle my case with Chryler, however, the compensation was not even close to Fair but I needed it to buy a car that worked. Good luck to all of you with problems. I know with Chrysler you'll need it. Here is my new website www.pakko13.com it is a mall that helps raise money for Breast Cancer research and a local Boston Childrens Hospital Fund created for a friend who died from Cystic Fibrosis. Thanks, Mike

July 15 1997 I went out to buy my first new car after graduating from College and getting my first real job. To reward myself I looked everywhere for my new car, finally settling on a New Chrysler Sebring Coupe LXI (automatic). The pain Begins here. 1. At 8000 miles my car one day would not start and it smelled like something was burning. I had it towed to Chrysler where they discovered a faulty wiring harness that had burned through the hood cover on my car. After 2 days in the shop that was fixed with no fee. 2. At 11,000 my car started stalling again and the CD player stop playing when I cornered.($600 extra at purchase) After bringing it to the shop they claimed nothing was wrong with the CD player. On the way home it did not work again. I brought the CD player back and complain twice and it was not fixed. Soon after I was told to contact the maker of the CD player. It was Chrysler! After much despair I decide to replace the CD player ($350 installed). 3. At 19,000 Miles my car started running roughly and the brakes where not catching. I went in for repairs and at 19,000 miles needed a complete set of Brakes and Rotors which were not covered by warrantee. I was told I must drive with my foot on the brakes, however, as a side note the brakes and rotors in my last 2 cars last 50,000+ miles. The electrical problem was taken care of and said to be a wire harness issue. 4. At 29,500 My car started idling poorly and starting rough. It also smelled like sulfer and was not shifting well. I was told the car needed a new transmission and superceeded transmission control wire harness. As for the electrical problems they were unable to duplicate the condition. 5. At 33,000 again car has trouble starting and shifting. The paint on the rear spoiler has become swirled like a tie dyed shirt. The Mechanics say the transmission is fine and can not duplicate the electrical problem starting the car. My spoiler was removed and changed. I also noticed the hood was rusting underneath beyond anything I had seen in a new car. This was not fixed. 6. At 35,000 My Car would not start I got stuck 1 hr from my home at a gas station because my car stalled and would not start after filling up. After jumping the car I brought it in for service the next day when it took 30 minutes to start and I was late for work. At the dealership they ran tests and claimed nothing was wrong and reset the computer. The next day my car would not start and I was 1 hr late for work. I called for another appointment which was given a week later. My car would not start without a jump for the entire week. 7. At 35,500 brought my car in after living with the starting problems for a week. Chrysler checked the computer and found no problems. They claimed it started fine and when I went to drive it home it did not start right away. I took the car to another autobody shop and they could not figure out what was wrong but could duplicate starting problems. 8. At 36,000 miles a month has gone by my car has started erratically for the whole month. Some days it would start with a jump other days it would not. At this point after getting stuck 1 hr from my house in NH I decided to drop off my car at the dealership until it was fixed. Finally the figured out the issue was a weak battery cell and replaced it. Please note my Transmission is still having difficulties. 9. At 44,000 miles my the brake lights came on and I was having trouble shifting again. The car would get stuck in reverse. There was also a terrible rattle coming from below. Again for the second time I needed a complete set of brakes and rotors not covered by warrantee. Again Chrysler said the transmission was find. 10. At 46,500 miles my car again is not running well. The check engine light has come on and my car would not speed up. Again my car would not start properly. Again the rattle is back the heat shield had come loose. Chrysler fixed the Powertrain control Module which caused the issue again not under warranty. The night before I got stuck 2 hrs from home and had to call AAA. 11. At 47,500 miles The engine light came on again and the transmission was not shifting properly. By now you my be hearing similarities in my complaint's. Also several hoses carrying different fluids to my car burst. Those had to be fixed. Chrysler fixed the Input speed Sensor and Transmission cooler line clamp. 12. At 47,700 miles the big one! In the mourning I woke to go to work and just out of my driveway the check engine light came on. This was 2 days after picking up my car from the shop. My transmission was not shifting properly and the electricity in the car started flickering. I figured I would try to make it to work and then call the Dealership. About 5 miles down the road I was going around a corner and the car lost all power plunging me head first into a Telephone poll with no power brakes. After hitting the poll I was so mad I did not hurt physically but was mentally a mess and scared. I called the police and a tow truck to the scene. At the dealership there was much concern about my well being and trying to figure out what happened to the car. I missed work that day to find out the the Wireharness connecting the transmission was faulty. Chrysler apologize but offered no reparations from missed work and would not fix the cosmetic damage to the car. The accident crushed the symbol on the front cracked the bumper and bent the under frame of the car. The Customer service manager and the Head mechanic both admitted the crash was cause by a faulty wire harness. Yet they did not feel fit to fix the front end. Later that day the pain came. I went to the Doctors where he diagnosed a good case of whip lash. I paid the medical bills! 13. At 52,000 miles my car was not work properly again. The check engine light came on and would not run properly. At the dealership the had to replace both O2 sensors. Also another hose had burst and was fixed. Not under warranty. They also had to replace the medal piece under the hood because rust had over taken it. 14. Currently the car has several problems in which I can not continue to have fixed. The right door no longer locks without manually forcing it. Which is dangerous because it is hard to open once I lock it. It continues to have starting problems on a daily basis. The transmission which has been replaced no struggles in reverse and coming out of reverse. The paint has become very dull and is chipping along the edges. At this point the poor thing may not make it to 60,000 miles.
One Important note that everyone should pay attention too is the fact that through all this electrical and mechanical failure Chrysler representatives have called it "typical wear and Tear". If I was told this was typical wear and tear when I purchased the car I would have run out of the dealership sceaming!!!! |

Conclusion In the first 4 years of owning this car it was a complete struggle to even keep it on the road. The car was in the shop for over 60 days. I missed over 2 weeks of work due to the accident and bringing in the car for repairs. I lost nearly $8000 in repairs, medical bills, lost work. To this date I am still having neck and upper back problems. I have contacted a lawyer, however, Chrysler has not offered even close to enough money to even cover the missed work. They simply do not care about their customers. People have ask why do you not trade in the car. There is a simply answer. I spent so much time and money trying to fix this car that I can not afford a new one. I put close to $30,000 into this automobile. To make matters worse Chrysler will not offer me much of a trade in because of the Damage from the accident and the cars past. All the information in this warning page is 100% true backed up by receipts and statements by mechanics at Chrysler. |
